Premier Oiwoh, Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS)

The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS),  Premier Oiwoh is not new to the Fintech industry in Nigeria.  He succeeds Folashodun Shonubi who is now the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Who is Premier?

Premier is a strategic process enabler. He has vast experience in process automation, centralization, payment system implementation, security and information technology.

Prior to his appointment as the boss of NIBSS, Premier had served as the Executive Director (Operations & Technology) with oversight function on the IT and Operations Directorate at Keystone Bank.

Premier’s Experience and Competencies  

Premier has over 25 years of banking experience with competencies in banking operations and IT, digital financial services, internal control, retail and business banking.

Premier’s expertise cuts across business process assurance and re-engineering, e-banking business, business process automation, information security management, digital solutions (retail and corporate), project management, cost optimization and business development.

Premier’s Background

Premier commenced his banking career in 1992 and has served in various capacities ranging from head of operations, business manager, and director of operations at International Office in Franco Phone Africa, Director/Head Operations and IT and head, business development (Northern Nigeria).

Premier’s Passion

Premier is passionate about offering services and solutions that provide gains, process the efficiency with overall effectiveness to businesses and customers.

He has led the unique development and implementation of bank operations mode, process automation, that yielded new process efficiencies, improved customer services, centralisation of processes, which resulted in cost optimization and effectiveness – gains that directly translate into a broader ability to serve and still, remain profitable.

Premier’s Recognition

In recognition of his immense contributions to the banking and payments industry in Nigeria, Premier was commended by the CBN for his contributions in securing the Nigerian payments system through the Nigeria electronic fraud forum (Neff) and his outstanding contribution towards the success of the e-dividend Mandate Management System (e-DMMS) portal project implementation.

Premier’s Pioneering Status

Premier has pioneered several initiatives and implementation and these include working with the CBN, CHBOS and other groups to ensure the implementations of Biometric Verification Number (BVN), PCIDSS, ISO27001 and ISO23001, etc.

Premier’s Partnership Appetite

Premier has actively partnered industry initiatives like the implementation of the chip and pin debit cards, industry fraud desks, NUBAN etc.

Premier’s Education

Premier holds a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA. He has attended several training programmes within and outside the country including a Credit Analysis Course with Agusto & Co, Bourse Game by Citibank, Senior Management Programme (SMP24) Lagos Business School and Advanced Management Programme from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is a Member of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
