Neptune Software Founder Simeon Agu Passes On

LAGOS, NIGERIA: Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has expressed tremendous shock at the passing away of Engr. Chijioke Simeon Agu, Founder, Neptune Software and Founding President of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) on Sunday, July 9, 2012

 Agu haD 38 years of experience in the IT industry which includes tenure with Shell in Nigeria and the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) as the Director of Computer Services.  Mr. Agu set up Nigeria’s first software company in 1984 and focused the company’s activities on the banking industry.

 After partnering with Phoenix International, Computer Systems Associates built Smartbank, a Cobol based solution that sold to 10 Nigerian banks.  The partnership with Phoenix International led to the Equinox Banking System and the establishment of Neptune Software Group.  Mr. Agu had a degree in electrical engineering, holds a post graduate diploma in accounting and finance as well as a fellowship of the Nigeria Computer Society.

Founded in 1999, Neptune Software Plc is a banking software provider.  The UK-based company has over 170 employees and offices in the UK, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, and India.  Neptune partners with technology leaders such as BEA, Oracle, Sybase, IBM, and Business Objects.

Jidaw, the image maker of NCS noted that society  received the news with “heavy hearts and deep sense of loss”. He will be greatly missed by the industry. Details of the Funeral Arrangement will be communicated as soon as it is released by the family.
